Friday mock-up (a joy to make use of scrap) and colour samples. Genuine bogoak and burma teak. A piece that will be simple in appearance, letting the material take the spotlight. But a very complex construction to be found with, given the purpose of the box. It’s amazing how the bogoak looks charred, as if was burnt like shou sugi ban without having been near flames at all. Just time, tannins, and whatever roamed in the waters it rested in for thousands of years. Anyone else using a vacuum like this? Not sure when I started doing so, cleaning mortices and my back at the same time, having the suction within reach without being in the way.🤷‍♂️
A bit of restauration in the workshop today. To me this is sustainability, hard to argue with. Furniture constructed so that everyone can be disassembled and re-glued together, ready for the next 20-30 years at least.
